"Family" Havana, Cuba 1996
Part of the series "The Special Period", photographed in Havana, Cuba in 1993 and 1996.
In 1991, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Cuban economy crashed as Cuba’s foreign markets dried up. Cubans struggled to survive the daily blackouts, food and fuel shortages. The Cuban government names this time "The Special Period".
This series, photographed in Havana, paints a portrait of this uncertain time.
