Alexandre Mavrellis Oktan

BIO
Alexandre Mavrellis Oktan was born in Paris, France where he spent his early childhood before immigrating to Vancouver, Canada in his early teens.
He studied Photojournalism and Creative Photography at Emily Carr School of Art and Design in Vancouver before receiving his B.A.A. in Photographic Arts from Ryerson University in Toronto.
Alexandre has made a career in the Film and Television industry as a Cinematographer,
Camera Operator and Director while always using photography as his primary medium
for personal expression.
His personal projects have been exhibited in galleries in Toronto and Havana,
his large format limited-edition prints sold to art collectors in the U.K., the U.S., and Canada.
STATEMENT
Photography for me is more an exploration of how things feel rather than what they look like.
Photography as a personal reaction and expression of the world around me.
I'm not always sure I'm looking for but my body knows when I get near it.
In my documentary work I find that connection and empathy to the subject are the driving forces behind my images.
